INVADERS PERFORM STRONG AT BILLY HAYES INVITATIONAL;
LISS POSTS OLYMPIC TRIALS STANDARD AMONG ELITE FIELD

(INDIANAPOLIS)-- The Indiana Invaders had three first place finishes and a strong club effort at the Billy Hayes Invitational held Saturday, May 13 at Indiana University.

Jamie Strieter (47.59 meters) and Angie Joy (48.56 meters) won the javelin throw and discuss throw respectively and Frankie Young (7.13 meters) won the long jump.

Runner-up performances were achieved by Tyra Holt in the pole vault (3.63 meters), Le'Gretta Smith in the 400 meter hurdles (58.33), Hope Sanders in the 800 meters (2:06.52), Wilford Gareth in the 1500 meters (3:46.50), Brendon Falconer in the long jump (7.04 meters), and Kirt Thompson in the javelin throw (67.10).

Lorilynn Hoffman (1,500 meters), Todd Moroney (1,500 meters) and Steve Parker (high jump) finished third in their respective events and Falconer also was fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Liss, competing in the 5000 meters race at the Oregon Twilight at Hayward Field in Eugene, Or., finished 10th in 15:50.03, a qualifying mark for the U.S. Olympic Trials. She had previously qualified in the 1500 meters.

Of Liss' performance, Invaders Head Coach Chris Buhler said, " We accomplished the most important task, qualifying for the trials at a second distance. Now we'll get ready to race effectively in Sacramento".

INDIANA INVADERS LISS TO COMPETE AT
OREGON TWILIGHT 5K AT HAYWARD FIELD

(INDIANAPOLIS)-- Collette Liss (Valparaiso) will join the former American record holder and an Olympian in the Oregon Twilight track and field meet's 5,000 meter run to take place Saturday, May 13 at the University of Oregon's famed Hayward Field. Liss, who finished runner-up in the mile at the USA Indoor Championships and was the top American finisher in the 4k run at the World Cross Country Championships this winter, will be joined by an elite field of women distance runners in a race two months prior to the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Sacramento, Calif., to take place July 14-23. Highlighting the field of 18 runners will be Amy Rudolph, a former NCAA champion, 1996 Olympian and a 1997, '99 World Championships qualifier in the 5,000 meters and also is a two-time U.S. cross country champion.

Other headliners in the field are Leigh Daniel (Texas Tech and '99 NCAA 10,000 meter champion); Elva Dryer ('99 world championships qualifier in 5,000 meters and five-time NCAA Division II champ); and Marla Runhan ('99 World championships qualifier in 1,500 meters and 2000 USA Indoor champion at 3,000 meters).

"This race will be a particularly important test for Collette in advance of the Olympic Trials," said Invaders Head Coach Chris Buhler. He added, "The field is very strong and Collette has demonstrated herself very competitive among runners of this calibre. It will be interesting to see how she performs."

HOT INDIANA INVADERS THROWERS TAKE ON FIELD
AT BILLY HAYES INVITATIONAL AT BLOOMINGTON

(INDIANAPOLIS)-- The Indiana Invaders will travel to Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday, May 13 with six women and ten men registered to compete in the meet.

Kirt Thompson hit the Olympic "A" standard in the javelin throw for his native Trinidad, Jamie Strieter achieved the Olympic Trials qualifier mark in the javelin throw in two of the last three meets, and Angie Joy, the newest Invader, qualified for the Olympic Trials in the discus throw last Saturday at a meet at Northern Iowa.

With the U.S. Olympic Trials, to take place July 14-23 in Sacramento, Calif., nearly two months away, eight members of the Indiana Invaders have qualified to compete in the meet. Additionally, Kevin Collins competed this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and Kelly French (1500 and 5000 meters) has qualified to compete in the Canadian Olympic trials and Kirt Thompson in the javelin throw for Trinidad.

The Invaders that have qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials are: Collette Liss (1500 meters), Phil McMullen (decathlon), DeDee Nathan (heptathlon), Steven Parker (high jump), Le'gretta Smith (400 meter hurdles), Strieter (javelin), Leslie Vidmar (shotput), and Frankie Young (long jump).

Invaders women registered to compete this weekend are: Lorilynn Hoffman (1500 metes), Tyra Holt (pole vault), Angie Joy (discuss throw), Hope Sanders (800 meters), Smith (400 meter hurdles), and Strieter (javelin throw).

The men are: Antoine Batiste (400 or 800 meters), Jamie Cook (long jump, high jump, discuss throw, 110 hurdles, and 100 meters), Brendon Falconer (100 meters, long jump, 110 hurdles, and discus throw), Daren McDonough (pole vault), Todd Moroney (1500 meters), Steve Parker (high jump), Jim Sellers (800 and 1500 meters), Thompson (javelin throw), Gareth Wilford (1500 meters), Frankie Young (long jump),

"Qualifying for the Olympic Trials is the next major step for each of our athletes and for those that have qualified they can now focus of establishing the "A" standard," said Invaders Head Coach Chris Buhler. "The Olympic Games are once every four years and now is the time for our athletes to shine."
