HEIN VICTORY LEADS INVADERS TO BOSTON MAYOR'S CUP TITLE
October 28, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS) Priscilla Hein led the Indiana Invaders women's team
to a narrow win against defending national cross country champions,
B.A.A. Running Club, by 3 points (63 to 66) in the closely contested
12th edition of the Boston Mayor's Cup on October 28th. Hein's
impressive winning performance of 16:30 on the 5K course was eight
seconds off the well established course record of 16:22 set by
Kathy Franey, of NIKE International, in 1997.
Hein's individual win was followed by teammates Kelly French in 5th,
Keisha Banks in 11th, Susie Motl in 21st, and Kathy Kadziolka in
27th. Collette Liss completed the race, but did not score due to
severe intestinal problems.
"From a women's standpoint we put 5 in the top 30 without Liss.
Hein did a hell of a job from start to finish. I'm very happy with
where she is at in her training. Banks finished very well for being
11th in a field of 146 runners. Susie ran really well. Kathy competed
in her first cross country situation for us and I'm happy with her
performance. Overall I'm really pleased with the performance of
our women today,' said coach Chris Buhler.
On the men's side, the Invaders faced a very strong field with 19
teams competing. Rick Sluder in 8th led the men to a 5th place team
finish (200 points). Todd Moroney placed 31st, Gareth Wilford in 54th,
Phil Hudnall in 71st, and Eddie Nehus took 90th. The Invaders men's
team, while off to a slower start than the formidable women's squad,
expects to have an improved team performance in Mobile, Alabama on
December 1st for the USATF Club National Cross Country Championships.
The men's team competition was won by the host team B.A.A. with a score
of 92 points.
Buhler added, "Rick was our front runner and did a fantastic job with
staying in the hunt with the lead pack. I'm really pleased with the
job he did. Gareth's performance is his first competition after coming
off a hamstring injury. Eddie PR'ed by 25 seconds and for a 800m kid
I'm really pleased with what he did. Our focus is and has always been
set on club nationals. When we hit our taper in two weeks, we'll be a
lot more competitive than today. They'll be able to do the job that
I want them to do."

INDIANA INVADERS SEEK CROSS COUNTRY TITLE AT BOSTON MAYOR'S CUP
October 26, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders women's team will face the
defending national cross country champions, B.A.A. Running Club,
in the 12th edition of the Boston Mayor's Cup at Franklin Park,
Boston on October 28th. The match-up will be a prelude to the
USA National Club Championships in Mobile, Alabama on December 1st.
The Mayor’s Cup is regarded as one of the East Coast’s premier
cross country events. Now in its 12th year, the Mayor’s Cup
annually draws a deep and competitive field of harriers. Teams
competing also include Reebok Boston, Greater Boston TC, and the
Syracuse Chargers along with a strong field of collegiate teams.
"For us it's a month out from nationals. Both teams are looking
for a strong competitive effort in going after the title on both
sides. We are going to be a very strong force to be reckoned
with," said coach Chris Buhler. For the Invaders, Boston is going
to be a bigger battle than in New York where the team dominated
the Genesee Valley Harriers' Cross Country Invitational with a
17 point win in the women's 5,000 race.
Collette Liss, a 3-time national champion, will lead the Invaders.
Liss won the 2001 indoor mile title, 2001 5K Road title, and the
1999 fall national cross country title.
Liss will be joined by a very strong core of teammates in Priscilla
Hein, Kelly French, Susie Motl, Keisha Banks, and Kathy Kadziolka.
Hein placed 10th at the 2001 World Cross Country Trials, French
finished fourth at the 2000 Canadian Olympic Trials in the 1500,
and Kadziolka won the 10,000 at the 2001 edition of the Drake Relays.
On the men's side, the Invaders will run five for the first time this
season. Rick Sluder, Todd Moroney, Phil Hudnall, Gareth Wilford, and
Eddie Nehus will represent the Invaders. The men finished fifth at
the National Club Championship in 2000. The Invaders men's team,
while off to a slower start than the formidable women's squad, expects
to have an improved team in Mobile, Alabama on December 1st for the
USATF Club National Cross Country Championships.
Rick Sluder, the 2000 6th place finisher at the USATF Club National
Cross Country Championships, will lead the Invaders men's team.

INDIANA INVADERS TO OPEN CROSS COUNTRY SEASON IN NEW YORK
October 6, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders open with their first scored cross
country meet of the season on Sunday October 7, 2001 at the Genesee
Valley Harriers' Cross Country Invitational at Black Creek Park in
Rochester, NY. Invaders' Collette Liss, a native of Valparaiso, Ind.,
returns to defend her 2000 individual title and as a team the Invaders
look to defend their 2000 women's team title.
"Last year we put 5 women in the top 10. We are equally good if not
better this year. If we do what we're suppose to do, I'm not worried
about the outcome. We have two women who can run 16:10 or below and
three others at or below 17:10. This is the first time this season for
all seven of the ladies to jump on the cross country course together
and they should do just fine," said head coach Chris Buhler.
The Invitational is located 15 minutes from Rochester, NY in Black
Creek Park. The course features an all dirt/grass and wood chip
trail layout. The Invaders women's team will face the 1999 Mayor's
Cup team champion Syracuse Chargers, the Toronto Olympic Club,
Buffalo's Checkers AC, and the host team Genesee Valley Harriers.
On the women's side, Liss will be joined by teammates Priscilla
Hein, Kelly French, Susie Motl, Keisha Banks, Judy Porter, and
Leah Nilsson. Hein placed 10th at the 2001 World Cross Country
Trials, French finished fourth at the 2000 Canadian Olympic Trials
and Porter competed in the 3000 steeple chase at the 2001 USA Outdoor
National Track & Field Championship.
On the Men's side, three Invaders Rick Sluder, Todd Moroney, and
Phil Hudnall will compete against a strong Kenyan field and several
very competitive east coast teams including Greater Boston TC, Toronto
Olympic Club, Philadelphia TC, Syracuse Chargers, Ithaca's High Noon AC,
Buffalo's Checkers AC, and the Genesee Valley Harriers. Sluder finished
6th at the 2000 Fall USA National
