INVADERS' JADA PHELPS JUMPS TO FOURTH AT USA INDOOR NATIONALS

(INDIANAPOLIS) Invaders' Jada Phelps, a 2001 graduate of Ball State
University, finished fourth in the long jump (5.98) at the USA
National Indoor Championships in NYC, New York on March 2. Teammate
Le'gretta Smith finished 7th in the 60H (8.36) improving upon her
2001 performance of 8th place.
Phelps jumped a season best in her first indoor national championship
and improved upon her eighth place finish at the outdoor national
championships in 2001. Smith ranked ninth of entries going into the
championship is the only 400 meter hurdler in the event. Smith was
seventh going into the finals after running in the prelims with a
time of 8.32. This is Smith's second consecutive year as the only
400 meter hurdler in the 60H finals.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "As a team we brought four athletes
ranked in the top 10 and two ranked in the top 5 and came out of the
meet with four top 10 finishes and two in the top five. We had a
great competitive effort out of Wilson. Now we'll take a brief break
and hopefully have the best outdoor season we've ever had."
Overall the Invaders placed well in New York with Toyinda Wilson
taking third in the weight throw, Phelps placing fourth in the
long jump, Carri Long took sixth in the high jump, and Smith
finished seventh in the 60H.

INVADERS' TOYINDA WILSON PR'S TO TAKE THIRD AT USA INDOOR NATIONALS
March 1, 2002
(INDIANAPOLIS) Invaders' Toyinda Wilson, a graduate of Purdue
University, threw a PR of over 2 feet in the weight throw (21.67)
to place third at the USA National Indoor Championships on
March 1st at the historic Armory Track & Field Center at 168th
Street in NYC, New York. Fellow Purdue University graduate Carri
Long finished sixth in the high jump with a 1.80 clearance.
Wilson, returning to competition after a 2 year hiatus, won the
NCAA Championships in this event in 1999 and also won the Big Ten
Indoor Championships in 1998 and 1999. Wilson will compete in
both the hammer throw and the discus throw in the outdoor season.
On the second day of competition, Jada Phelps, a graduate Ball
State University, will compete in the long jump and 400 meter
hurdler Le'gretta Smith will compete in the 60H. Phelps and Smith,
ranked of entries going into this weekend, are ranked third and
ninth respectively. Smith looks to improve on her eighth place
finish in 2001 in this event.
